“If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his #heart.” Nelson Mandela
Last year around this time I wrote an article for my blog called “How to wish merry Christmas in any language”
I gave a few tips on how to express feelings in another language, because, ya know, Christmas is the time when we share more love and appreciation for each other, right? 😀
Expressing feelings in your second language can be a bit tricky, but here’s the deal…
You don’t have to reinvent the wheel. If you don’t know how to say something in another language that is heartfelt and emotional, you can research a text, a poem or a song in that language that talks about what you’re trying to say and borrow its words. I give an example about this strategy in this article.
But if you’d like to know how to wish merry Christmas and happy new year in the language you’re learning, watch the special episode of Ermy’s Q&A show below
In this Christmas episode, I go around Chester asking people how to say merry Christmas and Happy New Year in their native language. This is my way to wish you a super Christmas and a fantastic New year in 8 languages.
The following languages are featured in the video
Turkish, Italian, Polish, Bulgarian, Romanian, Welsh, French, Spanish
Feel free to share this video with anyone you’d like to wish merry Christmas and happy new year to –especially if their language is featured in there!.Use the social media button below to share it!
And before you leave let me know in the comments how you say “Merry Christmas and Happy new Year in your native language.
I really look forward to hearing from you,

P.S. This is the LAST DAY to grab my Italian Conversation Guide for Travellers and get another one for FREE to gift someone you love for this Christmas. You can purchase right here and then email me the name and the email of the person you’d like to give it to -I’ll deliver it to them Santa Claus style. 🙂
Since I live in a bilingual country, I say it in two languages.
Finnish: Hyvää joulua ja onnellista uutta vuotta
Swedish: God jul och gott nytt år
