Procrastilearning!

I used to say, “Lo faccio dopo!” ( I’ll do it later!”๐Ÿ˜„). And, then, I never did.

I mean…when I was learning my first foreign language I remember that, at some point, I always used to skip the following practices:

โœ…Translation practice

โœ…Free writing practice

โœ…Speaking practice

Instead, I filled my learning time with…

๐Ÿ“– Reading and listening practices (true/false, multiple choice)

โœFill the gaps exercises

โ“Various quizzes that required minimum

writing

๐ŸŽฆWatching videos

โ˜‘Grammar exercises

I loved doing those.

You know why?

๐Ÿ˜ŒBecause they were easy and gave me immediate satisfaction.

They were definitely easier than translating, writing or speaking to someone in the foreign language… which I found a bit frustrating!

โš ๏ธThe truth was that translating, writing and speaking were… work. Uncomfortable work.

Back then, little did I know that that was exactly the work I needed to do in order to learn to how to speak the language.

Because I had reached a point where I could understand the language well, but I couldn’t use it to communicate what I wanted to say… and translating, writing and, of course, speaking were the things that were going to get me there.

So, the work that I was actually doing (with all those quizzes and one word exercises) wasn’t the best kind of work for me…

๐Ÿ•ขActually, today I would call that “procrastilearning”. ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿคฃ Meaning, procrastinating the real learning, through learning something!

Do you ever find yourself “procratilearning” when working on your Italian? How does it show up for you? ๐Ÿค”
