One thing I do at the beginning of every new year is writing down what I’d like to accomplish in the months to come and, at the end of the year, I pull out this list to see how many of those things have been accomplished or have happened.

This year, to my great satisfaction, I realized that many of the things I had written have been achieved. It was a year full of events, emotions, adventures and above all… travel.

In August I decided to leave for a semi-impromptu trip to Europe which took me to visit and live in 4 different countries: France, Spain, Austria and the Czech Republic… it was an adventure I’d wanted to do for a while and I’m happy to have succeeded.

However, it wasn’t that easy. There were many challenges along the way, but the hardest thing was just…doing it. Take the first step and start the journey.

Starting the journey, even though I was very afraid of being alone, of not making it, of leaving a place where I had lived for so many years…

Starting the journey despite people’s negative opinions (“But at your age shouldn’t you buy a house and settle down?”).

Starting the journey despite having no idea what would happen next…

And, guess what… Now, in hindsight, I know I did the right thing.

Because doing something like this has brought me so much joy, strength, inspiration, and a new level of awareness of myself and my limitations (that can be overcome) that will stay with me and serve me best in the next chapter of my life.

And as this new year begins, my wish for you is that you achieve something that you truly want, with all your heart, despite what people think and despite the fear.

Because after all, we only have one life and I hope you can live it to the fullest!
