“My Italian is not good enough to have a proper conversation!”
This was coming from someone who had been learning Italian for 3 years and was already living in Italy.
Everytime she would try to converse, she would get frustrated…and give up!
And here’s the thing:
In giving up, she would validate even more the thought, “My Italian is not good enough to have a proper conversation.” which kept her in an endless vicious circle.
Because when you think something like that and believe it, your brain will start to find all the reasons why this is true in reality.
So, as soon as you don’t understand something in a conversation your brain goes like, “See? Your Italian is not good enough to have a conversation. Stop now.”
Or if you get something wrong, your brain will tell you, “Told ya! You’re still not good enough to have a conversation…stop making a fool of yourself. “
🔁Till it becomes a loop that doesn’t allow you to progress.
Here you are on a far-from-enjoyable merry-go-round:
First, you get frustrated.
Then you get fearful to make a fool of yourself
Finally, you stop trying to speak altogether –hence, never learn how to speak!
Till you try again and the same thing happens over and over again.
So how do you get out of this loop?
By managing your mind and elevating your mindset.
Because having an elevated mindset when you learn to speak Italian is as important as having enough words and grammar to communicate what you desire.
So, I’d love to know: do you know how to cultivate an elevated mindset in your Italian learning?
